Studio at Crofton Hall
In 2022 I moved to my new studio at Crofton Hall. It's a gorgeous, bright and airy workshop with plenty of space dedicated to wheel throwing pottery teaching. AC, ground level access, 9 adjustable professional potters wheels and plenty of workbench space make it the best space in Cumbria to learn pottery in (in my humble opinion :) )
30min from Keswick, Cockermouth and only few minutes outside of Carlisle.
In 2024 we welcomed nearly 400 budding potters into the studio. We've worked through over 3 tonnes of clay and fired countless beautiful pots. Anna (my studio technician) and Eleanor (my assistant teacher) helped me, Alicja, keep the studio running efficiently throughout the busiest year we've ever had.
Teaching wheel throwing well is a difficult but very rewarding work that I take seriously - after all, we are instilling good habits in the new wave of makers, some of whom go on to develop their own creative pottery styles here in Cumbria.
If you would like to join us in the workshop, you're in great hands. Wheel throwing clay and pottery in general is a wonderful craft and a fantastic medium to work with.
The studio is open to the public most days if you fancy having a nosey, but as I work though backlog of work, my online pottery shop will remain empty for a while longer.

Hello, my name is Alicja and I’ll be your pottery teacher today 😌 Grab an apron!
I am an active maker and I would consider myself a production potter (I am highly experienced at producing large quantity of near identical pots on potters wheel) although in recent years my focus has been pulled towards more creatively challenging work with a variety of different clay bodies.
I keep my skills up to date with regular training, both in terms of throwing and teaching as well as glaze chemistry and kiln management.
You can view my work and creative process on my instagram account (@upland_clay) or in my shop section.
I love the windswept fells around my village, long dog walks and winter evenings with a book. I enjoy wild camping, collecting wild clay and letting my mind wonder outdoors.
More than anything else, I adore the process of wheel throwing, my studio is my happy place and I have poured my heart and soul into making it a mindful, relaxing and joyful space to be in for myself, my customers and studio members.
